An official of the International Chess Federation said there is no immediate decision on whether to take action against world champion Gary Kasparov for failure to meet a Jan. 6 deadline to agree to a rematch with Anatoly Karpov. Federation President Florencio Campomanes, who was unavailable for comment, said last week that Kasparov would lose his title unless he agreed to the rematch by the deadline. But Lim Kok An, secretary general of the federation, said at its headquarters in Lucerne, Switzerland, that expiration of the deadline does not mean that Kasparov automatically loses his title.
