World chess champion Gary Kasparov has another three weeks to decide whether he will play a rematch with Anatoly Karpov, an International Chess Federation official said. Lim Kok An, secretary general of the federation, announced earlier that Kasparov had until Monday of this week to agree to the rematch or forfeit his title to Karpov. But Lim later told reporters that “we must have been counting from the wrong dates.” He said the rules show that Kasparov must formally accept the rematch by Jan. 27 or lose his title. Kasparov has said he will ignore the federation’s deadlines.
