Tax Amnesty Nets $9 Million

More than $9 million in delinquent business taxes were collected by Los Angeles City officials under a tax amnesty program that enabled companies to avoid penalty fees and the threat of prosecution if they paid overdue taxes by Dec. 31, Mayor Tom Bradley said today.

Bradley, who called the program “wildly successful,” was joined by city Controller Rick Tuttle, Councilman Howard Finn and City Clerk Elias Martinez at a news conference to report that the amnesty plan had reaped more than triple the amount of taxes and interest expected. Tuttle said that more than 10,000 companies took advantage of the amnesty, including 450 businesses that had never before paid city taxes.
