Share

A Fresno County planning official has been appointed Santa Monica city planner. Ann Siracusa, 45, manager of Fresno County’s planning and community development division, was appointed by Santa Monica City Manager John Jalili from about 100 applicants. She becomes the first woman to fill the position, which pays $53,124 a year.

Siracusa, who earned a degree in architecture from the University of California, Berkeley, and studied urban planning at the University of Rome, will begin her new job Jan. 21.

The appointment comes as Santa Monica is about to consider drafting land-use laws that will affect commercial and residential development within the city for years, officials said. Duties of the city planner include ensuring that proposed developments conform to city land-use policies.
