Mexico Dietary Tip: Rabbit Is Cheaper
With beef prices rising rapidly, government nutritionists are recommending that people eat more rabbit, iguana and other cheaper meats.
Producers are currently seeking an increase in the authorized price of beef, which within the last month was raised to the equivalent of $3.20 a pound at current exchange rates.
Nutritionists said Thursday that people should replace beef with cheap varieties of fish, as well as rabbit, duck, quail and iguana. Such meats are sold mostly in the countryside but are available in the cities.
