Amnon Yariv of Caltech has been awarded...

Amnon Yariv of Caltech has been awarded the 1986 Frederic Ives Medal from the Optical Society of America for overall distinction in optics. Yariv has researched lasers, quantum mechanical noise theory and other aspects of optics for 25 years. The award includes a $2,000 grant.

Richard D. Haynes of West Covina has been reelected president of the Visiting Nurses Assn. of the East San Gabriel Valley. Robert Pope has been reelected vice president and Jo Jean Johnson was named treasurer.

Robert Hostetler has been named president of the Alhambra Community Hospital Board of Trustees. Hostetler previously served as board vice president. Dr. Alan Korostoff of San Marino will serve as head vice president. David S. Oakley will serve as second vice president and Dr. Steven Morrison will serve as third vice president. Dick Nichols, Eva Casner and Dr. Wilson Mizener were also elected to the board.

Violinist Laura Frautschi, 16, of the Pasadena Young Musicians Orchestra, has been awarded the Pasadena Musician Award from the Los Angeles Philharmonic Junior Women’s Committee. First clarinetist Chris Schubert and first trumpet Wes Nance, also members of the Pasadena Young Musicians Orchestra, were awarded $950 scholarships for a summer music program. The association is sponsored by the Pasadena Symphony Assn. and the Pasadena Unified School District.
