Heavyweight prodigy Mike Tyson Saturday night tied Rocky Marciano’s record of 16 consecutive knockouts to begin a career with a first-round knockout of Dave Jaco at the Empire State Plaza Convention Center.

Tyson, 19, knocked Jaco down for the third time with a short right hand to the side of his head at 2:16 of the first round.

The 5-11, 217-pound Tyson, from Catskill, N.Y., has knocked out 12 opponents in the first round.

He floored Jaco, 6-5 and 220 pounds, twice earlier with left hooks. The three knockdown rule was invoked and the fight was stopped.

Marciano set the record May 2, 1949, when he knocked out Jimmy Evans in the third round in Providence, R.I.
