The Region : A Record 46 Million Visited L.A. in ’85

Los Angeles had more tourists last year than when the city hosted the 1984 Summer Olympics, tourism officials said. The Greater Los Angeles Visitors and Convention Bureau said the Los Angeles area attracted a record 46 million visitors in 1985, up 6.5% from the previous year. In addition, tourists spent an estimated $10.7 billion in Southern California, up more than 16% from 1984. A majority of visitors said the area’s numerous attractions were their main reasons for coming to Los Angeles, the bureau said.
