A Santa Barbara man who claimed television voices ordered him to kill four family members should be sentenced to life in prison without possibility of parole, a jury has decided. The Santa Barbara Superior Court jury deliberated only two hours in the penalty phase of Barry Wayne McNamara’s trial for the slayings a year ago of his parents, sister and 4-year-old niece. McNamara, 37, could have received the death penalty, but jurors indicated that his mental problems precluded them from considering the gas chamber. Formal sentencing for McNamara has been set for Feb. 13.
