Pitcher Dwight Gooden of the New York Mets injured his right ankle when he stepped on a sprinkler last week and was on crutches for a time, the club reported.
The Mets said that Gooden was injured Jan. 5 while running alone in the choppy outfield at Hillsborough High School, his alma mater, in Tampa, Fla.
