Redondo Beach : Parking Restrictions Voted

Share

The council unanimously voted Tuesday to restrict parking on Artesia Boulevard from 6 to 9 a.m. seven days a week.

The restriction, which will affect both sides of Artesia between Hawthorne and Aviation boulevards, is intended to discourage day laborers seeking employment from congregating by making it illegal for motorists to stop to pick them up, according to a city report.

The action was taken after North Redondo Beach Business Assn. President Lynn Baker complained that the large numbers of unemployed loitering in the area interfere with local businesses.

The no-parking signs are expected to cost the city $3,000, according to city reports. The Police Department will issue stickers to Artesia Boulevard business people and their employees exempting them from the restrictions.
