Comarco Receives Order for Cellular Components

Share

Comarco Inc. of Anaheim, a defense contractor long anxious to attract some civilian assignments, announced Wednesday that it has received a $1-million order to manufacture electronic components for roadside cellular telephone call boxes.

The order came from Cellular Communications Corp. of Irvine, considered among the leading companies in the emerging field of emergency cellular systems for freeways, parks and other remote locations.

Glenn Buell, Jr., Comarco’s president and chief executive, said he expects to receive additional orders for the cellular components from Cellular Communications as the market for the emergency systems grows.

In the meantime, Buell said, the company is pursuing additional civilian business with the hopes of having non-military work account for about 20% of its revenues within the next several years. Currently such work accounts for about 5% of the company’s revenues, which totaled about $30 million in the 1985 fiscal year.
