Paramount : 4 File for School Board Race

Four candidates have filed to run in the special election to fill the remaining term of a Paramount Unified School District trustee who died. The deadline for filing nomination papers was Friday.

The balloting will be held in conjunction with the next regular municipal election April 8.

James Paisley, widower of Sandra Paisley, 52, the trustee who died of cancer in September, filed papers with the county registrar-recorder to run for the office.

Paisley, a building engineering inspector who lives in Paramount, led a drive that gathered enough signatures of registered voters to force the special election. Paisley began the drive after the school board appointed former board member Ethel Hillary to fill the unexpired term, which runs through 1987. Hillary retired from the school board in 1981.

Hillary could not take the seat, however, because the law permits a 30-day period for anyone opposed to the appointment to petition for a special election.

A second candidate who filed nomination papers is Alex Rivera, an administrative intern from Bellflower.

A third candidate who filed is Ken Peeples, a computer program analyst from South Gate, and the fourth is Marianne Papp, a system management consultant, also from South Gate.

The Paramount school district includes the city of Paramount and portions of South Gate, Long Beach and Lakewood.
