Coach Jim Schoenfeld of the Buffalo Sabres was fined $5,000 by the National Hockey League for throwing a water bottle at referee Terry Gregson.
The incident happened in Quebec Dec. 10, when the Nordiques beat the Sabres, 7-3. Schoenfeld was so upset at the officiating that he threw the bottle at Gregson as the final siren went off.
“All I’ve got to say is that it’s too bad it wasn’t a brick, otherwise I would have hit him in the head,” Schoenfeld said after the incident.
