A San Diego couple was named Friday in a six-count federal grand jury indictment charging them with possessing large quantities of cocaine and heroin for sale. Police found six kilograms of cocaine, one kilogram of heroin and a machine gun at the couple’s Iris Avenue home on Dec. 17 after one of their young sons called the 911 emergency number and said he and his two brothers had been left alone and were hungry.

Indicted were Jose Alvaro Gomez, 32, who is at large, and his wife, Gloria Esthela Arana, 31, who is being held on $250,000 bail in the County Jail at Las Colinas. Both are charged with conspiracy to possess cocaine with intent to distribute, conspiracy to possess heroin for the same purpose and possession of an unregistered machine gun. Officials estimated the street value of the drugs to be $3 million.
