Citizens and Planning

Sam Hall Kaplan’s article “Citizens, Not City, Lead Fight for Good Planning” (Jan. 5) is superb . . . and he has dealt with a problem that few writers are courageous enough to enunciate.

The tenor of the article reminds me of the Yevtushenko poem “Conversation with an American Writer.” The bottom line of the poem is that common honesty gets misinterpreted as courage . . . and yet today, perhaps that is how we must interpret it.

Keep up the honesty! It is so refreshing and so inspiring to all of us.
