PCAA Roundup : Surprising New Mexico State Turns Back Fresno State, 48-46

Kenny Travis scored 23 points and pulled down a last-second rebound Saturday night to ensure New Mexico State’s 48-46 victory over Fresno State at Las Cruces, N.M.

Travis, a native of Fresno, denied the Bulldogs (10-7 overall, 3-3 overall) a chance to tie the game when he pulled down a rebound with three seconds left.

The Aggies (11-3, 5-0) remained on the heels of Nevada Las Vegas (7-0) in the PCAA race.

Brian Salone led Fresno State with 14 points.

Utah State 80, San Jose State 67--Greg Grant scored 22 points and freshman Gilbert Pete added 16 in his first collegiate start as the Aggies defeated the Spartans at Logan, Utah.

Grant and Pete also grabbed 20 rebounds each.

The Spartans (9-6, 3-3), led by Ricky Berry’s 16 second-half points, were within 65-62 with 4:02 left.

The Aggies (6-8, 2-3) scored six straight points for a 71-62 lead with 2:27 left and made seven straight free throws to seal the victory. New Mexico State scored 13 of its last 15 points on free throws.

Berry led the Spartans with 22 points and Reggie Owens added 14 before both fouled out in the closing minutes.
