Southern’s financial statement will be qualified.

Southern Co. said it expects its independent auditor, Arthur Andersen & Co., to issue a qualified opinion on the Atlanta-based company’s 1985 financial statements because of uncertainties about whether Southern can recover its investment in its Rocky Mountain hydroelectric facility and of uncertainties regarding the regulatory treatment of a nuclear plant. Southern is considering the sale of the $162-million hydroelectric facility.
