Paramount : Boogaard Won’t Run Again

After eight years in office, City Councilman Case W. Boogaard has decided not to seek reelection.

In explaining his decision Monday, Boogaard cited the desire to spend more time with his family.

More than 50% of his time during the past eight years has been devoted to civic affairs, said Boogaard, 40, who was elected in 1978.

“I enjoyed my time on the council but these are important years for my sons. I want to spend more time with them during this period,” said Boogaard, who owns a furniture store. Boogaard and his wife, Billie, have two sons, Eric, 7, and Ryan, 4.

Boogaard’s seat is one of three up for reelection in the April 8 municipal election.

Nomination papers have been taken out by five people, including councilmen Charles Weldon and John Mies, City Clerk Kathie Mendoza said.

The others are Ted Mosier, a former councilman who lost a reelection bid in 1984, Rich DeBie, also a former councilman, who lost in 1978, and Mike Delivuk, an accountant, Mendoza said.

None had returned their nomination papers by Jan. 20, Mendoza said. The closing deadline was Jan. 30 but because an incumbent has indicated that he will not run, state law requires the deadline to be extended to Feb. 4, Mendoza said.
