Jogger Who Was Hit by Car Dies
Claude R. Hubert Jr., 15, the jogger who was struck by a hit-and-run driver in Newport Beach, died Wednesday afternoon, three days after he was injured.
Hubert, who lived in Costa Mesa, was jogging in the dark along the 2000 block of Irvine Avenue with his sister, Patricia, 17,when he was hit. Police said his sister could describe the car that sped away only as a large, dark, American-made sedan.
Newport Beach police announced that they would set up a booth Sunday near the scene between 5 and 8 p.m.--roughly the same time of day as the accident--in hopes that a witness will come forward.
