More than half of Pennsylvania’s nearly 3,500 state-employed nurses and health care workers went on strike and set up picket lines at hospitals and other facilities. The health care employees, who have worked without a contract since Sept. 30 and rejected the state’s latest contract offer Friday, went on strike with shifts beginning at 6 a.m. “We’re encouraged by the turnout,” said Marcie Boyer, a member of the union bargaining committee.
