U.S. Gets Some Paris Support on Libya
Deputy Secretary of State John C. Whitehead said Wednesday that France has agreed not to undercut U.S. sanctions against Libya and will consider further measures to cooperate in stopping international terrorism.
Whitehead, who is on a tour of European countries, conferred with French President Francois Mitterrand, Interior Minister Pierre Joxe, External Relations Minister Roland Dumas and other officials. He said he believes he convinced them that Libyan leader Moammar Kadafi supported terrorist acts.
Whitehead told a news conference he had given French officials a detailed dossier on Libyan terrorism, including payments to terrorist leaders, supplies of arms, forging of documents and location of Libyan training camps. No details of these charges were made public.
