Another Baby Given Transplanted Heart
A second baby born with a congenitally malformed heart underwent a heart transplant Thursday at Loma Linda University Medical Center near San Bernardino.
Identified only as “Baby Eve,” the 17-day-old girl received the heart of another child who had been declared brain dead. Both recipient and the donor were flown to Southern California by chartered jet from different parts of the country, spokesman Dick Schaefer said. Dr. Leonard Bailey, chief of pediatrics cardiac surgery, performed the transplant.
In November, a 4-day-old boy identified only as “Baby Moses” received another baby’s heart at the same hospital.
