AND NOW HERE’S THE NEWS: Replacements fans here are still buzzing about the Minneapolis-based band’s super-charged performance on “Saturday Night Live” last weekend. But guess which NBC affiliate didn’t air last week’s show--Minneapolis’ own WUSA-TV. The station said it had a previous commitment to preempt “SNL” for a cerebral palsy telethon. However, after a deluge of complaints from local rock fans, the station rescheduled the show, airing a taped version of the show at midnight Sunday night. . . .

Fans of the Faces (the rollicking British rockers whose original cast included Rod Stewart and Ron Wood) are in for a treat. The band is completing plans for a one-time only reunion concert later this spring, with proceeds going to both Multiple Sclerosis and AIDS research funds. The revival would feature original Faces members Stewart, Wood, Ian Maclagen and Kenny Jones, with Duran Duran bassist John Taylor sitting in for bassist Ronnie Lane, who has been sidelined with multiple sclerosis. Stewart’s manager Arnold Stiefel said, “The plans are still in their embryonic stage, but it definitely looks like it’s going to happen,” adding that the show may be simulcast live on MTV. . . .

And Elvis Costello will be back in the stores next month will a new album, titled “King of America.” The collection will features 15 new songs, including a remake of the Animals’ “Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood.” Costello also has a new back-up band called the Costello Show, who replace his longtime mates, the Attractions.
