CAC Head to Be Sworn In

Robert Reid, 42, is being sworn in today as director of the California Arts Council at council offices in Sacramento, after an appointment that came as no surprise and drew much praise.
The council’s former chief deputy director, was named by Gov. George Deukmejian to replace Marilyn Ryan, who resigned two months ago.
In a surprise move Deukmejian also named Joyce Pollock, 52, head of Pollock Development Co., a Sacramento realty firm, as the 11th council member, filling the position formerly held by Ann Getty.
Although he has been a marketing and sports promotion executive with virtually no background in the arts, Reid, a supporter of the governor, scored high points during his three years at the council for his willingness to learn.
