USC and UCLA Set Up Cancer ‘Hot Line’
The University of Southern California and UCLA have joined to inaugurate a statewide cancer “hot line” to provide Californians with up-to-the-minute information.
Sixty volunteers manning telephones at both campuses will answer general questions about the disease and refer patients to specialists who treat all forms of cancer.
The service, financed by the National Cancer Institute in Bethesda, Md., will operate five days a week, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. After-hours callers will be forwarded to volunteers at the institute’s center in Maryland. The number is (800) 4-CANCER.
