The car believed stolen by two men who escaped from the Orange County Jail was found by Los Angeles police. The 1972 blue Toyota, stolen from the federal building parking lot near the Santa Ana jail shortly after the weekend escape, was located in a parking lot at 324 W. 2nd St. in the downtown area. The car was later towed to a police lot, where Orange County sheriff’s crime lab specialists were to examine it to determine whether it was actually taken by the two inmates. “We never said they definitely stole the car,” Sheriff’s Lt. Richard Olson said. “We will be checking it to see if there is any evidence in the vehicle.” Convicted killer Ivan Von Staich, 31, of Lake Elsinore, and Robert Joseph Clark, 23, of Palm Springs, who was awaiting trial on murder and robbery charges, overpowered a guard on the jail’s rooftop recreation area and rappeled down 80 feet to the street.
