Hewlett-Packard said it was ending pay cuts.
The computer and electronic instrument maker reported that it is restoring full pay to about 29,000 workers whose salaries had been reduced 5% in 1985. Earlier this week, the Palo Alto company also told securities analysts that it is beginning to rehire laid-off workers and that it intends to introduce its Spectrum minicomputer next month.
