San Diego police said a man whose body was found 100 yards north of the border was shot to death by a Mexican police officer.
The officer, Luis Ernesto Mendez Hernandez, 29, of the Baja State Judicial Police, is believed to have shot Jose Luis Moreno-Sanchez, 23, of Tijuana, in the head Jan. 17, San Diego police spokesman Bill Robinson said.
San Diego police, working in conjunction with Mexican police, interviewed Mendez Hernandez Friday, Robinson said.
The Mexican officer said Moreno-Sanchez was in his custody when he tried to escape. Mendez Hernandez said his gun went off when he hit Moreno-Sanchez on the head with it to stop his escape, Robinson said.
