Direct-Election Petition Planned in S. Korea

SEOUL, South Korea —
Leading South Korean dissident Kim Dae Jung said Wednesday that a nationwide campaign next month will seek to collect 10 million signatures petitioning the government to allow direct elections for president.
Under the current system, an electoral college of about 5,000 people elects the president.
