Linda Chavez, one of the Reagan Administration’s most prominent women and Latinos, will resign from her post as director of the White House public liaison office Monday to run for the Republican nomination to the U.S. Senate in Maryland with the “blessing” of President Reagan. Chavez, 38, a Democrat until last year and a liberal aide to former Rep. Don Edwards (D-San Jose), will seek the seat being vacated by Republican Sen. Charles McC. Mathias Jr., who is retiring.
