Cypress : Cyclist Killed; CHP Says Hit-Run Driver Involved
A Cypress man, riding his bicycle in western Riverside County, died after being struck by two vehicles, the first driven by a hit-and-run driver, a spokesman for the California Highway Patrol said Thursday. Thomas K. Holmgren, 25, was riding west on Magnolia Avenue, just west of Buchanan Street in Home Gardens, CHP accident investigator Terry Taylor said.
Holmgren was crossing some railroad tracks when “he either fell off his bike . . . or was hit first by a westbound hit-and-run vehicle, a white van,” Taylor said.
The driver of a car, traveling behind the van, swerved left in an effort to avoid the prone bicyclist, Taylor said, but hit both Holmgren and a second car. No other injuries were reported.
