Shopping Centers : $10-Million Facility Open for Off-Price Merchants
The $10-million, 125,000-square-foot Plaza Las Palmas shopping center has opened on 11.5 acres at West Valley Parkway and Interstate 15 in Escondido. The developer, Crisell Properties of California Inc., Escondido, said the center, specializing in off-price and promotional retailers, is the first of its kind in San Diego County. It was designed by Browy/Leary Architecture and Planning and built by R. E. Hazard Jr. Inc. Leasing is handled by John Burnham & Co., Escondido.
Renovation Scheduled
The name of the Severin Manor Shopping Center, a 21-year-old neighborhood mall on 5.8 acres at the northeast corner of Severin and Amaya drives in the La Mesa area of San Diego, has been changed to Village Station Shopping Center. The owner, Burnham American Properties, a John Burnham & Co.-affiliated partnership, plans a $2.5-million renovation that will add more than 15,000 square feet of restaurant and shop space to the 48,395-square-foot facility as well as redesigning and rebuilding all exteriors.
Plans have been completed by architects Gerald Garapich & Associates; the contractor has not been selected; work is expected to start this month and be completed this year.
Addition to Be Built
Construction has begun on a 47,000-square-foot addition to the 46,460-square-foot shopping center on the southeast corner of Valley View Street and Ball Road in the redevelopment area of Buena Park. The new construction, expected to cost $4.5 million, will include a 40,000-square-foot Ralphs supermarket and shops.
Ralphs Grocery Co. is acting as project developer for the owners, Dr. and Mrs. Martin Burns. The architect is Herbert Nadel AIA & Partners and Daum/Johnstown American, Newport Beach, represented Ralphs and the owners in the lease transaction.
Gale Center Purchased
John Biby of Newport Beach has purchased the Gale Commercial Center, a shopping center at 15301-59 Gale Ave., Industry, for $2.75 million from CYL Properties of Pico Rivera. The principals were represented by staff members of Marcus & Millichap Inc., investment real estate brokers, Encino.
Retail Center Rising
Norwalk Village, a $1.5-million retail shopping center with two free-standing buildings of 9,646 and 3,187 square feet, is under construction at 10635 and 10649 Imperial Highway, at the southbound off-ramp of the San Gabriel River (605) Freeway in Norwalk. June is the scheduled completion date, according to the developer, R. C. Hobbs Development Co. of Orange. The leasing agent is Coldwell Banker.
