2nd-Quarter Net Income Up for PDA Engineering

Although its net income rose a hefty 60% for the second quarter, to $464,000 from $290,000, PDA Engineering said high research and development costs led to a 1% drop in operating profit for the period ended Dec. 31. Operating income for the quarter was $342,000, compared with $347,000 a year earlier. Revenues for the second quarter rose 15% to $4.37 million from $3.82 million.

The Santa Ana software design and marketing firm’s net income for the first six months jumped 93% to $923,000 from $478,000. Revenues rose 9.4% to $7.91 million from $7.23 million.

The company said that in making the transition from distributor to a direct sales operation, it expanded its markets and incurred costs in filling a number of key domestic and foreign marketing and sales positions.
