Mission Viejo : Minister Who Skipped Sentencing Is Arrested
The Rev. Kenneth Lowe, convicted of 46 contempt counts for violating a court order to stop operating unlicensed board-and-care homes, was arrested Wednesday morning for failing to appear for sentencing.
County marshals bearing a bench warrant took the minister into custody at his Mission Viejo home. Lowe, ordained by the Universial Life Church, a Modesto-based mail-order ministry, was being held in lieu of $10,000 bail pending his new sentencing, which had not been scheduled late Wednesday.
Lowe failed to appear last week for sentencing, and Superior Court Judge Judith M. Ryan held him in contempt of court. She ordered that a bench warrant be issued for his arrest.
Ryan had found Lowe guilty of the 46 contempt counts in December and sentenced him to 230 days in jail. She fined him $23,000.
