Two men have been jailed on suspicion of armed robbery after a holdup at an Albertson’s market.

David Hans Morales, 21, of La Palma and Vernon Cleotha Evans, 27, of Los Angeles were charged with armed robbery and possession of a stolen weapon, Lt. Ken Baguley said.

Officer Bill Mentzer, who was accompanied by Rod Ballard, an off-duty La Habra policeman, spotted the two men running from the Albertson’s store at 7511 Orangethorpe Ave. around 10:41 p.m. Tuesday.

“Being policemen, naturally, they think the worst: a robbery,” Baguley said.

The suspects were detained, and about the same time, the store’s manager came running out and said about $250 was stolen at gunpoint from one of the cashiers, Baguley said.

Referring to the coincidence that the officers were passing through and of their quick response to the situation, Baguley said: “That’s the kind you like to see all the time.”
