Rep. Bobbi Fiedler “is the victim of a serious injustice” in her indictment on charges of offering $100,000 to state Sen. Ed Davis of Valencia to lure him out of the Republican primary for U.S. Senate, the Washington Post said in an editorial today.

The Post said transcripts of the grand jury that indicted Fiedler and the secretly recorded tapes it relied on “strengthens our opinion that this is a prosecution that should never have been brought.”

The editorial questioned, “How can Dist. Atty. Ira Reiner justify submitting a citizen to the rigors of criminal prosecution when his office thought she did not deserve to be indicted?” (The district attorney’s office recommended that Clarke, but not Fiedler, be indicted.) The Post said Reiner, a Democrat, “is open to criticism for intervening unfairly in the other party’s choice of a Senate candidate.”
