Gang Offers Treats to Lighten Load of Kenyan Bus Riders
The notorious “poison-snack gang” has struck again, this time on a rural bus heading for Busia on the Ugandan border, the Daily Nation newspaper said Saturday.
Operating on long- and medium-distance bus routes, mostly in Kenya’s rural areas, the gang hands out free snacks laced with ground sleeping pills to selected passengers, who munch away and then inevitably fall asleep. A gang member then unloads the victims’ baggage as if it were his own at the next stop.
The gang has struck at least six times in the past three months, including Friday’s incident, according to police. The latest incident involved four passengers.
