The architectural team of Charles Moore/Urban Innovations Group, Los Angeles, and the Danielson Design Group of San Juan Capistrano were chosen winners of the national competition to design a new civic center for Oceanside.
The team was selected from among five architects by an 11-member jury composed of architecture professionals and Oceanside community leaders. The winning team receives a $10,000 prize and the opportunity to negotiate final architectural designs, according to jury spokesman John MacDonald, deputy mayor of Oceanside.
Planned for a three-block site where the existing city hall is located, the new civic center will serve as the anchor for Oceanside’s urban redevelopment program. Construction is expected to be completed in 1988, the year of the city’s centennial, with a move-in date of January, 1989. The project will house all city and harbor district offices, a library and a fire station.
