UCI Tennis Team Stays Unbeaten

The UC Irvine men’s tennis team remained unbeaten Saturday, defeating San Diego State, 6-2, in a nonconference match at Irvine.

The Anteaters, ranked 17th nationally, are 4-0. UCI’s No. 1 singles player, Bruce Man Son Hing upped his record to 13-3 with a 7-5, 6-4 win over Julio Noriega. Man Son Hing is ranked 44th in the nation in singles. He also teamed with Darren Yates to win the No. 1 doubles match, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4, over Noriega and John Cost.

Yates, a sophomore, improved his singles mark to 3-1 with a 7-6, 2-6, 6-3 victory over Cost.

The Anteaters were without their No. 3 player, Ken Derr, who was out with the flu. Julian Barham, who replaced Derr, defeated Eric Crabb, 6-0, 6-0. UCI’s Mike Downs won the No. 4 singles match and Mike Cadigan won in the No. 6 spot.
