Softsel Computer Products said Michael D. Pickett will assume the duties of president and chief operating officer on April 8, succeeding Thomas P. Mullaney. Mullaney, a major investor in Softsel, will become an advisory director.

David S. Wagman, co-chairman of Softsel, said the election of Pickett follows a succession program formulated when Mullaney joined the Inglewood-based software distribution company in April, 1985. Pickett joined Softsel in 1983 as vice president-finance and chief financial officer.
