Micropolis Triples Its Profit Over 1984

Micropolis, a Chatsworth-based disk drive maker, announced that it earned $2.8 million, or 24 cents a share, in 1985.

The profit is more than triple the $819,301, or 9 cents a share, that the company earned in 1984. Sales for the year jumped by 58% to $94.9 million.

In the fourth quarter, Micropolis earned $2.3 million, or 24 cents a share, a reversal from a loss of $371,930, or 4 cents a share, a year earlier. Sales in the quarter rose 92% to $36.2 million.

Dundas I. Flaherty, Micropolis’ senior vice president for finance, attributed the earnings increase to sales of its 85-megabyte disk drive, a high-speed, high-capacity information storage device used with personal computers. The market still is relatively strong for that equipment because of its sophisticated technology.
