Santa Ana : Fire Chief on Leave for Unspecified Disability

Share

Santa Ana Fire Chief William J. Reimer has been on “industrial leave”--a form of temporary disability leave--for two to three weeks, City Manager Robert C. Bobb confirmed Monday.

However, Bobb declined to describe the nature of Reimer’s disability.

“I can’t get into what his medical problems are,” said Bobb, adding that he does not know when Reimer, 47, will return to work. “But I expect he will return.”

In the meantime, Deputy Fire Chief Ernest Hoeft is serving as fire chief, Bobb said.

In the ongoing negotiations between the city administration and firefighters association over department morale problems, firefighter representatives have requested that the city remove Reimer, who was named chief in 1979.
