Stanford Baseball Team Wins, 35-0, as Robbins Leads Rout of Stanislaus

Stanford scored six runs in the first inning and nine in the second en route to a 35-0 baseball victory over Cal State Stanislaus Tuesday at Turlock, Calif.

The Cardinal set a school record for runs and hits (34) and came within one run of the Pac-10 record of 36 set last year by Oregon State against Cal State Chico. The NCAA record is 41.

Dan Schmidt (0-1) started for Stanislaus, the first of five Warrior pitchers. He lasted one-third of an inning, allowing six runs and five hits. Don Cabral, the first reliever, allowed 14 runs before being knocked out in the fourth.

At the end of four innings, the score was 25-0. Stanislaus (2-1-1) held Stanford scoreless in the fifth and sixth, but Stanford scored 10 runs in the final three innings while using mostly reserves. Stanford (7-2) finished with 34 hits in 62 at-bats, while Stanislaus had only two hits.

Doug Robbins led Stanford with six runs batted in and four runs scored. Four other players scored three runs for Stanford. Mark Davis’ solo home run leading off the second inning was the game’s only home run. Stanford had 28 singles and 5 doubles.
