Hermosa Beach : Construction Limits OKd
The City Council gave final approval Tuesday night to amendments to the residential zoning code that are expected to prevent construction of thousands of apartments and condominiums over the next few decades.
The council voted 4 to 1, over the objection of Mayor Jack Wood, to implement the changes, which were proposed last month in an effort to fight parking, traffic and congestion problems.
Two weeks ago, when the ordinance was introduced by the council, about 100 property owners showed up at City Hall to protest the changes, which will place new restrictions on construction in areas zoned for two-family and multifamily housing. This week, however, the measure was approved without comment from the council or the audience.
