The United States resumed food aid to Haiti today, raised the prospect of restarting financial assistance and sent a team of experts to study further emergency assistance to the new interim government.

The State Department also lifted its advisory warning Americans against travel to Haiti, but cautioned travelers to use caution and observe the curfew imposed on the country. The first shipload of U.S. surplus agricultural commodities left U.S. ports in the Gulf of Mexico bound for Haiti, and a team of experts from the Agency for International Development was sent to the island in response to the civilian-military interim government’s request to the United States and other countries for emergency financial help.
