South African police raided a church center near Johannesburg and wounded at least three children who were among dozens seeking refuge from racial violence, center officials said. Police said at least 55 other people were arrested in the raid on the Wilgespruit Ecumenical Center, a religious retreat operated by several churches. Meanwhile, white opposition lawmaker Alex Boraine, saying he is “horrified at the deep divisions” in the country, announced that he will leave Parliament at the end of the month.
