Hollywood’s long-awaited redevelopment plan took a step closer to implementation as the Los Angeles Planning Commission voted unanimously to approve the proposal and send it to the City Council. The commission also took the unusual step of voting to include a provision that would give specific funding to social service needs. In prior plans, a fee exacted from developers has been used to aid the arts. In the Hollywood proposal, the fee has been expanded to also benefit social service agencies. The proposed plan now goes before the council’s Planning and Environment Committee.
