New- and resale-housing sales figures for San Diego County in 1985 reflect a 10.85% gain in residential sales as compared to the previous year and a 4.2% increase in new homes recorded on maps.

An analysis of deed recordings by Safeco Title Insurance Co. shows that there were 53,111 home sales in 1985, compared to 47,911 in 1984. Its analysis of subdivision maps reveals that there were 19,214 new homes planned, compared to 18,434 in 1984.

The real estate market in San Diego, particularly in the subdivision sales category, has been getting stronger each year, according to Safeco vice president and San Diego manager Denis V. Rottler.

“New-home sales have more than doubled since 1982, when there were 7,804 sales recorded,” Rottler said.

Resales took an eight percent jump in 1985. There were 36,761 homes changing hands compared with 34,029 in 1984, and the 1985 total is 22.8% ahead of the 29,936 resales in 1983 and 73.4% more than the 21,198 resales in 1982.
