Hawthorne : Water System to Be Flushed

Share

The city will begin flushing its water system Monday to clean out sediment and other impurities that bypass the city’s filtration system. Water superintendent Al Rivier said the six-week flushing process will involve opening hydrants intermittently in different parts of the city.

Rivier said tap water may be cloudy during the flushing but that it will be drinkable throughout the process. “It’s completely safe. It’ll be riled up a bit, but it’s no problem.” He added that some customers may experience a temporary loss of water pressure while the hydrants are open.

The flushing process will begin in southeast Hawthorne near El Segundo and Hawthorne boulevards and continue throughout the city, ending in the northeast section of the system.
